TMJ dysfunction occurs when the temporomandibular joint (the hinge connecting your jaw to your skull) becomes irritated, misaligned, or overly tense. This can develop from clenching or grinding (often stress-related), dental or bite imbalances, trauma, posture-related strain, or restrictions in the surrounding cranial and facial structures. Because the TMJ is closely linked to the neck, head, and nervous system, dysfunction here often creates symptoms far beyond the jaw itself.
At Center for Wellness, we take a whole-body approach to TMJ dysfunction by addressing the structural, muscular, and neurological components that contribute to jaw imbalance.
