Sleep Disorders

Sleep disorders occur when the body has difficulty transitioning into or maintaining a restful state. This can happen due to nervous system dysregulation, chronic stress, hormonal imbalances, physical tension, breathing issues, or an overactive mind.

Because sleep relies on the body shifting into parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) mode, any disruption in the spine, cranial system, or vagus nerve can make it harder to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake up feeling restored. Even subtle tension patterns in the jaw, neck, or diaphragm can interfere with the body’s ability to fully relax.

Over time, disrupted sleep affects energy, mood, immune function, pain levels, and overall well-being—making gentle, nervous-system–focused care especially supportive.

Common Symptoms

  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Restless tossing, turning, or fragmented sleep
  • Jaw clenching or grinding (bruxism)
  • Waking up fatigued despite 7–8 hours in bed
  • Trouble winding down or “turning off” the mind
  • Feeling wired at night and tired during the day
  • Headaches, tension, or discomfort upon waking
  • Increased stress, irritability, or difficulty focusing
  • Sensitivity to noise, light, or other sensory input at bedtime

CFW Approach

At Center for Wellness, we help restore healthier sleep patterns by calming the nervous system, reducing tension, and improving the way the body regulates stress and relaxation.

Your personalized care plan may include:

  • Craniosacral therapy to quiet the mind, ease cranial and jaw tension, and support deep relaxation
  • Vagus nerve and autonomic nervous system support to improve the body’s ability to shift into rest mode
  • Gentle chiropractic adjustments to reduce physical tension and improve nervous system communication
  • TMJ and jaw assessment when clenching or grinding disrupts sleep
  • Breathing pattern and diaphragm support to enhance oxygenation and relaxation
  • Lifestyle and sleep-hygiene strategies to create more supportive nighttime routines
  • Stress-reduction techniques to decrease hyperarousal before bed
